PRODUCT INFORMATION: Natural Slate Worktops, Bar Tops & Counter Surfaces

Delabole Slate Worktops, bar tops & counter surfaces are hand-crafted to individual customer requirements. Please remember therefore, to give us enough warning to produce your order in time. You can phone our sales Office at any time to check on the current availability for worktop orders.

Colour
All Delabole Slate Worktops are predominantly blue/grey in colour, with attractive natural markings.

Finishes
Our Slate Worktops are available in:
  • Fine Rubbed (Honed)...The slab is rubbed to a smooth finish (like an egg-shell to the touch) resulting in a dark blue/grey matt surface.

  • Or
  • Sanded...This special hand finish maintains a lighter blue/grey colour and gives a more mellow appearance.

  • Worktop Thickness
The normal thicknesses for work-surfaces are:
  • Traditional - 40mm OR 50mm (1.5" or 2")

  • Contemporary - 25mm or 30mm (1" or 1.25")

  • Shape & Size
Worktop slabs can be crafted to accommodate practically any design. Unusual or curved shapes can be cut to templates, whilst standard shapes can be made to drawings.
They are manufactured to a maximum size of approximately 1800 x 1200mm (72" x 48"). Larger worktops can be obtained by appropriate jointing on-site.

    Edges
All top edges of worktops are arrised (slightly chamfered) to remove any sharpness. In addition, exposed edges can be honed (fine rubbed), rounded (either half or full bullnosed) or pencilled according to customer requirements.

    Special Features
Apertures cut into the worktop for sink or hob units, can be easily catered for. Tap holes, and even drainage grooves can be machined to complete the perfect sink feature.

    Fixing
Delabole Slate worktops can be successfully fitted by most carpenters, builders masons or specialist kitchen fitters to good strong base units.
    Worktops can be fixed by:
  • Mortaring on and in to stone or brickwork, using "thickbed stone tile" adhesive for added adhesion if required.

  • Bedding down on base units with a suitable mastic adhesive. Drilling and dowelling the underside if added security is desired. Dowels can be fixed with epoxy resin /araldite.

  • Specialist kitchen fitters may use ready-made stone fixing brackets screwed to base units.

  • Joints can be made using:
  • Flexible stone tile grout.

  • Mastic adhesive.

  • Specialist silicone sealant.

  • Maintenance
To assist with everyday cleaning, we recommend treating your slate worktops with "Stainstop". This is applied with a cloth to the "dry" worktop after fitting and cleaning. Normally two coats are required and these will slightly darken the colour and enhance any natural markings.
General cleaning is effected with warm soapy water using washing-up liquid.
You can "wipe down" the worktops as many times as you wish with Stainstop to replenish but once or twice a year should suffice.
