Since before the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, Delabole Slate worksurfaces have been used in just about every conceivable application. Thought to have been used by the "Beaker Folk" as "cooking stones" some 2000 years BC, Delabole Slate could have been the "original" stone worktop!

Ideal in kitchens, bathrooms, conservatories and utility rooms around the house, slate surfaces are also the perfect choice for commercial projects. Designers have specified Delabole Slate bartops, reception desks, tables and shop counters in all manner of projects from Heathrow Airport to the National Theatre.

Our use of traditional crafting methods gives each item a natural and individual finish. Slight irregularities and attractive natural markings are characteristic of this and adds to the uniqueness of your worktop.

Worktops are predominantly blue/grey in colour, with attractive natural markings. The surface is honed (fine rubbed) to a smooth matt finish, like an egg-shell to the touch.

For everyday use, we recommend that a specialist sealant be applied. There are various sealants available from The Delabole Slate Company, most of which will darken the colour and enhance any natural markings.

All our worktops are individually made to customer requirements. They are manufactured to a maximum size of approximately 1.6m x 0.9m (63" x 35") and in nominal thicknesses from 25mm to 50mm. Larger worktops can be obtained by appropriate jointing on-site.

The slabs can be crafted to accommodate practically any design. Unusual or curved shapes can be cut to templates, whilst standard shapes can be made to drawings.

All top edges of worktops are arrised (slightly chamfered) to remove any sharpness. In addition, exposed edges can be honed (fine rubbed), rounded (either half or full bullnosed) or pencilled according to customer requirements.

Apertures cut into the worktop for sink or hob units, can be easily catered for. Tap holes, and even drainage grooves can be machined to complete the perfect sink feature.

We specialise in bespoke worktops. Every Delabole Slate Worktop is unique - no two are ever the same. To provide a fixed price quotation, we will need to know the details of your requirements. A plan or rough sketch with dimensions and details should be sufficient for quoting purposes. Contact our sales office for further information or a quotation.

When placing an order, final dimensions and details must be provided. If your worktops cannot be accurately drawn (perhaps due to an uneven wall, or strange shape) a rigid template may be required. Demand for Delabole Worktops is constantly high, therefore please try to plan well ahead. Our sales team will be pleased to advise you of the current availability for a worktop order.
