The name “Delybol” first appeared in 1284 and refers to “leafy pit” or, pit of leafy stone. By the time Elizabeth 1st came to the throne, the quarry was known as “Delabole” and has continued to produce the finest roofing slate, flooring, worktops and building stone to this very day.

Delabole Slate is not a geological term. It is the centuries old trade name for products of the Delabole Slate Quarry that has exclusive access to the very best of Cornish slate reserves. – So, there is and can only ever be, one producer……and that’s Us!

Here at Delabole in North Cornwall, we’ve been quarrying slate for almost 1000 years but don’t worry, we still have reserves for another 1000 years and more.
